Fabulous Japanese black lacquer clothing chest tansu with lock bar, late Edo period, c. 1800-1868. Bold, wonderfully rendered metalwork throughout. Chest fashioned entirely of sturdy cedar wood and warm kiri (paulownia). Deep, roomy drawers offer generous storage. Impressive highly detailed cabinet at base offers additional space for valued keepsakes. A functional and eye-catching piece and a stunning addition to any room.
