Splendid Japanese kotatsu, or turn-of-the-century style heater, early 20th century. At one time, this cypress kotatsu would have been offered to a guest as a portable heater. Traditionally, a blanket would be draped over the top to maintain warmth. We have added a pane of brown smoked glass on top to create a lovely stand or low side table.
