Rare two-piece Japanese lacquer clothing chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Customized stand allows for pieces to be displayed side-by-side at equal height. Dramatic, highly detailed and wonderfully rendered metalwork throughout. Chest fashioned of richly grained chestnut and kiri (paulownia) wood. Unique lacquer front with natural top and sides. Deep, roomy drawers offer generous storage. A practical yet eye-catching piece and a remarkable addition to any room. Dimensions: 50.5” high, 35.75” wide, 17” deep.
