Beautiful Japanese butsudan or altar, early 20th century. Striking multi-section piece with dramatic carved gilt and lacquer décor. An exquisite display of folding and hinged doors lead to the interior shrine display area above. Lovely latticework, rich black lacquer. Spectacular! Traditionally used as family shrine in the home but great for alternate contemporary use. Very good condition. Dimensions: 60” high, 25” wide, 20”deep.

Handsome Japanese red lacquer clothing chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Bold, wonderfully rendered metalwork throughout. Chest fashioned entirely of richly finished kiri and cedar woods.
