Exceptional Japanese wide clothing chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1880.  Charming chest fashioned of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia) wood, with dark cedar wood frame. Striking traditional metalwork features eye-catching lockplates, graceful bracketing and heavyweight handles. Deep drawers offer generous storage space.  A lovely, functional piece exhibiting Japanese style and tradition. Very good condition.  Dimensions:  35” high, 43” wide, 16” deep.
