Description Return Policy Ask About Layaway   Rare Japanese sword tansu, katana dansu, in ship tansu (funa dansu) form, late Edo period, c. 1800-1868.  Fashioned of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia) and cedar woods. Traditionally used to store samurai swords after the Meiji government banned the carrying of weapons in public. This substantial tansu features four deep, full-length sword drawers.
