Description Return Policy Ask About Layaway   Fabulous, rare Japanese sword tansu, katana dansu fashioned of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia) and sturdy cedar wood, Edo period, c. 1800-1850.  Traditionally used to store samurai swords after the Meiji government banned the carrying of weapons in public.  A rare, large find, this tansu features four ample full-length sword drawers and three small ones at base for accessories. Simple metalwork includes gracefully curving drawer pulls and rectangular lockplates.
