Description Return Policy Ask About Layaway   Wonderful Japanese sword tansu, katana dansu fashioned of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia), Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Traditionally used to store samurai swords after the Meiji government banned the carrying of weapons in public.  A rare find, this tansu features two ample full-length sword drawers, and a pair of smaller ones at base for accessories. Fine metalwork includes gracefully curving drawer pulls and rectangular lockplates.
