Fine Japanese half-mizuya kitchen chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Striking piece fashioned of warm, golden cypress and cedar woods. Gorgeous design shows disciplined grace and true beauty of the Japanese style. Traditionally used to store kitchen utensils and supplies, this tansu offers abundant storage space in a roomy cupboard with slatted panels and multiple drawers adorned by distinctive metal drawer pulls. A fine example of the exceptional function and style exhibited in traditional tansu craftsmanship. Very good condition. Dimensions: 60" wide, 31.5" high, 21" deep.
