Impressive Japanese two-section clothing chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Substantial chest fashioned wholly of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia) and finely grained cedar wood. Simple but abundant traditional metalwork features bold, circular lockplates with incised decor. Graceful bracketing accents the entire piece, making it a rare example of tansu craftsmanship. Long, deep drawers offer generous storage space. Both pieces are of equal height and each has a stand, allowing display of them side-by-side if desired. A sublime and functional piece exhibiting Japanese style and tradition. Very good condition with some loss to the metalwork design and minor repairs. Dimensions:
