Handsome Japanese clothing chest tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Striking chest fashioned of warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia) and cedar woods with dark finish.  Dramatic traditional metalwork features eye-catching lockplates with subtle bracketing and handforged handles. Deep drawers offer generous storage space.  A lovely, functional piece exhibiting Japanese style and tradition. Very good condition.
