Getabako - Shoe Tansu Japanese getabako or shoe tansu are traditionally kept at the entryway of a house to store shoes removed while at home. One or more sets of sliding panels typically open to reveal shelves for easy storage. Many Japanese shoe tansu or getabako even provide space for umbrellas.
The wood is typically fragrant cedar and designs range from sublimely simple to decoratively accented with bamboo, carving or cross hatching.
